Shades of life, Shades of Me

I look in the mirror and I see me.
I am made up of all those innumerable moments that has made my life worth living.
I look in the mirror and I see my eyes.
My eyes are black. Black is the colour of the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, like my soul. Not visible yet keeping me alive. I look in the mirror and i see my ears.

My ears listen to what you (life) say. What you share.
Loud music, crazy conversations, stupid jokes, all sing the same tune, Life is full of surprises.
I look in the mirror and I see my hands, I see my skin.
You (life) have made my skin look pale, but yes it’s worth it.Tattoos and memories,
happiness and pain, yes I can feel it, yes I can feel you (life). Yes I’m alive.
I look in the mirror, I talk to you (life).
I’m an emotional fool. Sometimes I’m angry at you(life), sometimes I’m sad,
sometimes I’m happy but you(life) remain the same, I believe you(life), you will make everything right.
I look in the mirror and I see me. You (life) look like me.

A life without love

A life without love is of no account. Don’t ask yourself what kind of love you should seek, spiritual or material, divine or mundane, Eastern or Western…. divisions only lead to more divisions. Love has no labels, no definitions. It is what it is pure and simple. Love is the water of life. And a lover is a soul of fire. The universe turns differently when fire loves water.
A life without love means to take living beings just as things, as object without       self-value for unrestricted use – plants, animals, humans. They all have one task, to serve my purposes and to be consumed for that. Even more, all the other existent things, namely lifeless nature get deprived of any self-worth.
Materialistic consciousness has brought this view to perfection and created the maximum alienation possible to mankind. Whatever we encounter as a thing is alien to us, because it has been ripped off its aliveness. We only can develop an inner trust to living beings. It is clear that we create a split in ourselves by turning ourselves to an object without noticing. And this object has to function perfectly. The animate sphere becomes an opposite which we meet with aggression in case it does not fit our purposes. Eventually, we ally ourselves with death by declaring life as an enemy. (Death, by the way, does not accept this offer, as it cannot be treated as an instrument of human will – every materialist will be addressed by death with great reliability in the given time.)

Indian E-commerce

In the last decade, India has made a name for itself as a tech player. But that reputation, however well-deserved, belies important limitations—and these are having a big effect on the development of online commerce.
For a start, Internet penetration is still very low, with only 8.4 percent of the population online. Then there is India's great size, unpredictable logistics and creaky transport. Bricks-and-mortar retailers, many of whom have cultivated rich and long-lasting relationships with their customers, offer tough competition. And finally, 90 percent of all retail transactions are conducted in cash; online works best with plastic or electronic money. No wonder, then, that e-commerce accounts for less 1 percent of total retail sales (compared to more than 4 percent in Brazil).
And yet… the opportunity is just too alluring to ignore. 80 percent of current Internet users say they are planning to shop online in the near future, for reasons as varied as convenience and privacy (for items like lingerie). Moreover, India’s online retailers are making progress. The e-commerce market has grown an average of 34 percent a year since 2005 and will continue to grow briskly for the foreseeable future, reaching $2 billion in sales by 2015. By then, it is estimated that India will have 38 million active online shoppers.

In a country of 1.3 billion people, that is still a drop in the bucket. But by any standard, 38 million is an appetizingly big drop. Money is talking, too: In 2011, investors poured $305 million into Indian e-commerce.

SHADES OF LIFE

Eyes closed and mouth wide open
Screaming with maximum energy I have
Surrounded by smiling faces staring myself
what a way to start a LIFE...

Ignorance is bliss and so was life
Joined kindergarten and problems started creeping in rife
it was late but learnt my first lesson
Education always comes with a price...

Time changed and so did my thinking
I was left up with no other choice than Engineering
Subjects no longer mattered in life
Results were crawling at the edge of a sharp knife..

Trend was to go with the flow and have a settled life
with some software job and a beautiful wife
I wanted to take a break from the normal routine
decided to follow my dreams and travel the path foreseen...

Yearning to do something for our nation
Want to become role model for the next generation
Head held high with pride and glory till the last breath
what a perfect way to end this LIFE...

DEWS OF LIFE

After dragging my foot hard through rough terrains of life,
I pant like that thirsty crow of my nursery rhymes…
Someone wipes off my forehead & kisses me,
That soothing touch reminds me of U Mother…

When I shop like Prince Charles swiping my credit card,
I Pause & count my blessings…
Remember your sacrifices to fulfill my endless needs,
It reminds me of U Father…

Silly fights draped with love; makes me miss my siblings,
Vacant dining table reminds gulping supper together @ 10....
Honking bikes reminds me of my friends, who were equal partner in crime.
Faculties out here screaming at me connect me to my school days…

Rain showering upon me, paints her face on the canvas of my heart...
Smiles, walk, talk, love, fights, hurt, pain, separation…not again!!
Still I find the breeze holding my hands, exactly the way you used to hold,
I glide across all your memories.
You depart from my eyes in the form of a pearl....
I long to hold u back the way Rose wanted to stop the drowning Jack….

The person in the mirror in front of me, always cheers me up.
Laughs, cries & learns the hardships of life with me.
Write your failures on sand, so that the waves of your success wipe them off,
Because life would bless you with lots of dew in the forthcoming mornings…

Beautiful!!!

She was fragile and immature,

Wildness and curiosity had she befriended,

Everything from pin to portrait interested her,

There was something in her eyes,

That none could have apprehended.

Her heart was a garden,

With walls very high,

Her smile as charming as it could get,
So what if she survives on four wheels,
What if she can’t swing to the rhythms,
She is beautiful, not for the ephemeral looks,
But for the way she thinks, for the way she is,

A beauty untold, a beauty from within.

Father and Daughter

The bond between father and daughter happens instantly, starting right at birth, When a father first lays eyes on his little girl he loves her more than anything on this earth, When a daughter grows older her father is the first man she will love, And the last one her father will have trouble letting go of, In her eyes he is the closest thing to God, in her eyes he is a King, To her father she means the world, she means everything.
When a daughter grows up to be an adult and mature,
Her father will always be there any time she still needs dad to help her,
To give her advice or just-for anything she will ever need,
The bond between father and daughter is the most important bond indeed,
It cannot be broken when she finds a man, and become his wife,
It cannot be broken even in the ending of either one’s life,
A daughter will always have the memories of her father, her best friend
This bond has a beginning, but there is never an end.
The bond between a father and daughter is so profound
The love shared is well renowned,
From the beginning of his daughters life, he is a changed man,
At that moment his life really just began.
From the moment their eyes meet,
two souls instantly become complete.

" FINANCIAL SHADES- ALL THAT GLITTERS "

The Door bell rang at 10 p.m. and I peeped into the eye-hole. It was Mrs. Goldy, our neighbor. I opened the door, and Mrs. Goldy rushed in with the Diwali sweets. She was flaunting her new gold earrings bought on the same day (the reason she came late after her shopping venture). Mrs. Goldy is known for her gold jewellery and thus nicknamed for it. I complimented her for her new acquisition. She explained, “Gold is the safest and productive investment, so I decided that instead of spending on clothes, I will invest in gold.” True, gold has almost every time proven to be a safe and productive investment, but not gold jewellery. Many investors set aside a portion of their funds for investments in commodities, especially gold. Gold plays an important role in ‘asset allocation’ - an important aspect of any investment strategy. 16 ‘Why not gold jewellery?’ When individual buys jewellery, they are paying not only for the gold but also many other charges like jewellery designing and making charges, Value added tax (VAT), etc.

If the person sells this jewellery after a time period (say 5-10 years), one would receive the price only for the gold and no other charges. This is not the only loss, but if the jewellery is sold to a different jeweler other than the one from whom it was bought, he would not give 100% of the value of the gold, but only 50-80% of the value of gold used in the jewellery, depending on the purity of the gold, besides reducing the weight for the stones, ‘minakari’ and any other designing work done on it. Most of the jewelers would say that the gold supplied by all other jewelers is impure to the extent of 50% (of course other than his gold).

Nowadays, Hallmark jewellery is available in market. But this kind of jewellery suffers the same drawbacks such as loss of making charges etc (from investment point of view). Many jewelers who deal in gold bullion and jewellery now have very sophisticated, expensive spectrum analyzer machines that test 17 the purity of the metal without destroying or melting it. But, most of the times, you may not be able to find one. To conclude if you plan to invest in gold, investing in gold jewellery would not get you the expected returns that could be gained by investing in pure form (24 carat) of gold. This, pure form is available in the form of coins, biscuits and small bars, even at some jewelers in the form of rings (there are circular wires made out of 24 carat gold, generally in 5/10 gm each regionally called as ‘vedha’ in Marathi ). If you foresee an important occasion such as wedding or business startup to be taking place in future (5-10 years down the line) in your family, you can start buying small portions of 24 carat gold in units of 5 or 10 gms as and when you can afford.

To support the same argument, against investing in jewellery well in advance before the wedding or any other occasion means spending additional amount (almost 2-5%) because the fashion and designs undergo changes at such a fast pace in today’s world….don’t you remember when your grandmother shows you some jewellery which she bought for you decades ago and you glance at it as some kind of arcane objects. 18 These 24 carat gold coins or biscuits or rings could then be exchanged with the same jeweler for gold jewellery made up of 22 carat generally or 18 carat (in case if the jewellery is studded with precious or semi-precious stones). There will be no loss in total value and you will receive almost the full appreciation of gold prices. But, ‘Caveat Emptor’, if you are going to sell the jewellery or even gold coins to another jeweler, he would not give 100% value of gold. It is always better if you sell pure gold or exchange jewellery to the same jeweler from whom you have bought it. If you are going to relocate to a different state or country, Hallmark jewellery presents a better option.

There are even banks which issue gold coins for investment purpose but they neither buy it back nor exchange gold jewellery, you have to sell the coins to your family jeweler again not receiving the 100% value. There are other avenues also through which you can invest in gold besides buying physical gold, like Gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) and Gold MFs (Mutual Funds). But, these avenues would be discussed in the next issue of ‘Expressions’. Underlying all this discussion is the most important assumption 19 that gold prices will only appreciate and not depreciate over time like your car or bike you have bought. So, till then you can glitter like Mrs. Goldy buying gold jewellery or invest in Gold as a commodity and be known as Mrs. Smarty.

Life Needs Both: Sunshine and Rain

You can’t claim the ownership of your thought process completely. For the hidden effect of those is radiating from each other all the time. Don’t we catch attitudes from each other, and when many people are made to think along one line what is called mass psychology is created?
When a stream of thought becomes characteristic and stationary it establishes a trait of character. Firmly fixed typescripts and inclinations make up a character, and that means a destiny. Character matters more in life than even situation or abilities. Have you not seen a man of character overcomes an unfortunate situation, and a man of great abilities makes nothing of those for lack of character? But character is not a random gift of God. We developed it in the same way as we developed our abilities by action in the past. Character grows by courageous and truthful confrontation of life. If we shirk the lessons of life, leave decisions and responsibilities to others, we must not be surprised if we do not evolve a "strong character". If we don’t develop strong character, then life teaches us its lessons empathy by the mysterious road of pain, that everyone faces some or the other time.
A soul is like a flower. It needs both the sunshine and the rain. The sunshine of human happiness makes it expand and put forth its powers; the rain of tears should purify and make it selfless, understanding and empathetic. What sort of a person would we be if we never suffered any sorrow or disappointment?

Thomas Campbell wrote some wonderful words:

“The more we live, more brief appear
Our life’s succeeding stages:
A day to childhood seems a year,
And years like passing ages.
The gladsome current of our youth,
Ere passion yet disorders,
Steals lingering like a river smooth
Along its grassy borders.
But as the careworn cheek grows wan,
And sorrow’s shafts fly thicker,
Ye Stars, that measure life to man,
Why seem your courses quicker?
When joys have lost their bloom and breath
And life itself is vapid,
Why, as we reach the Falls of Death,
Feel us its tide more rapid?”

To conclude, we should focus on building a resilient character and we should be open to all kinds of experiences in life. We should embrace happiness with open arms, we should take criticism with a pinch of salt and sorrows with a broaden mind and strongly we should fight with problems and come out with flying colors.

Grace & Gratitude

Dear friends,

A drop of water on a hot plate takes little time to disappear. It makes some noise & it evaporates.

Gratitude in our life seems to disappear even faster. We seem to forget how much we have grown, how much we have received. The mind seeks more & more. And in every wanting of more & more, it forgets the past very easily. So gratitude rises in everybody, but disappears very soon. Today we cannot say that no one is grateful. Everyone is grateful but for the moment & then it is finished.

Grace is that gratitude which can remain all the time. If gratitude remains around a year like the evergreen, you can call it grace. It is like the snow in the Himalayas that stays throughout the year. It doesn’t just fall & disappear. Whatever falls on the highest peak stays.

When there is gratitude, complaints disappear. When complaints arise, gratitude disappears, gratefulness disappears. When there is a complaint in the mind there is discontent, frustration, dejection, depression. All then follows. If you are not grateful, if there is no gratefulness, no gratitude, then you will start complaining. You will find fault. Even if there is none, you will try to see it, find it. Your mind will do it for u. You won’t even need to try hard. Your mind can easily pick it up. So and so person did not smile at me & so on… Or he smiled but did not show his teeth. It was less than a full smile. Always start your day with gratitude. Quite often we take our blessings for granted. We forget to appreciate the things, people we already have in our life and we strive for other things which we don’t have in our life. By doing so we don’t enjoy the beautiful people or things we already have in our life. So take a moment off from your busy schedule every day to be thankful for the countless blessings that God has showered on each one of us. You will notice that it will bring you so much of peace when you know that you already have so many blessings in your life.

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” — William Arthur Ward. If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.

The fastest way to bring grace into your life

· List 5 things you are grateful for when you first wake up in the morning

· If a bad thought comes into your head, replace it with a thought of gratitude

· Before you go to sleep, again list 5 things you are grateful for

· Find things to be grateful for in your friends, co-workers and bosses and let them know

Cultivating Gratitude

I once travelled with a friend who had great insight into human nature. She said, “Wherever you go you can find something to complain about.” If we travel, we can complain about lumpy beds and crowded airports. But if we stay home, we can complain that we never go anywhere interesting and there’s never anything good on television. In Japanese language there is a term -- on. The meaning of ‘on’ often includes a sense of gratitude combined with a desire to repay others for what we have been given. It’s not just that we feel grateful, or that we express our gratitude, but that we actually experience a sincere desire to give something back. We might think of it as appreciation that stimulates a sense of obligation. Not an externally imposed obligation, but a sense of obligation that arises naturally within us as we recognize how we have been supported and cared for by others. So how do we go from a complaining life to one which cultivates, and is grounded in, a spirit of on – a spirit of Thanksgiving? Just create an authentic life of gratitude and lead a clear and straightforward life! Be grateful to God, grateful to your parents and to all those who have contributed in making you what you are today! Be grateful to mother earth and the nature! It’s time to repay back, to return back in same good spirit as it came to you.
Till we chat again be good to your environment! God bless u all!

Good Thoughts

Dearest Friends,

Here are a few pointers to how to live 'close to perfect' life.
Get good sleep.
Eat an apple every morning.
Be friendly.
Share the good things you have.
Trash the bad things you have.
Notice the good. Express it.
Wake up early.
Look at the skies.
Take care of things and people at home, first.
Straighten up your room before you save the world. Then save the world. Stay alive.
Be nice to people before they have a chance to behave badly.

Hold your anger out at arm's length and look at it, as if it does not belong to you.
Wear comfortable shoes.
Wear comfortable clothes.
Laugh more.
Appreciate.

Do not spend too much time with large groups of people.
Plan your day and avoid rush.

Show your appreciation to people who do things for you, even if you have paid them.
After dinner, rinse your mouth.
Calm down.
Don't be too self-critical or too self-congratulatory.
Believe progress exists.
Imagine what you would like to see happen, and then do something to make it possible.
Forgive people.
If you feel tired, rest.
Don't be depressed about growing older. It will make you feel even older. That is depressing.
Do one thing at a time.
Do not inhale smoke. Do not exhale smoke.

Take a deep breath. Release it. Do it as many times a day as you can. Do once right now.
Stop expecting people to change 'for you'.
Be good. On second thoughts, be better.
Be honest with yourself, diplomatic with others.
Do not do what you believe is a waste of time.
Drink plenty of water.
Take out the trash - from the bins and from Life.

Love life.

Carry exact change.
Smile at someone.
Stretch.
Sigh as you hug.

When you can do enough of these, life will look perfect to you.
